Course Description
Polymeric Coating Formulations is a course that provides a comprehensive overview of the basic principles of coatings science. Students will be introduced to concepts that will aid in understanding coatings needs, their manufacture, and performance. The course will provide a foundation on how to select the appropriate coatings components for the appropriate use, and the role of resins and polymers, pigments, solvents, and additives in a coatings formulation. Considerations for environmental and regulatory compliances will be presented.
Course Outcome
After completing Polymeric Coatings students will be equipped with a basic understanding of the following:
- how to select the appropriate coating components for the application
- how to characterize and assess coating manufacture and product performance
- how to differentiate between the various coating formulation types
- how to comply with quality, VOC, and regulatory standards
Prerequisites
A basic understanding of chemistry is recommended.
